Adult Volunteers in Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana depends on its' more than 25,000 adult volunteers to share the responsibility for the Girl Scout Movement. Dedicated professionals have fostered Girl Scout growth and have influenced the lives of thousands of girls in our council. Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana is looking for volunteers who represent the diversity of the world we live in:

  • Women
  • Senior Citizens
  • Adult Women without children
  • People of all racial and ethinic backgrounds
  • Women without previous Girl Scout experience

    ... individuals who are willing to make a difference in the lives of girls by sharing their time and expertise.

    Did you know that you could spend a couple of hours a week making a difference in girls' lives?

  • Perhaps you speak another language and could help explain the messages about Girl Scouting to a girl's family?
  • Or maybe you enjoy keeping financial records and would be willing to manage the product program activity funds for a local Girl Scout troop.
  • Do you enjoy writing? Your skills could be utilized in writing feature stories or news releases about Girl Scouting events for the local newspapers.
  • Is teaching others something that gives you personal fulfillment? You could train the volunteers and be a part of the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana's adult development volunteer team.
  • Network with other professionals when you serve on the board of directors or one of the council's committees.
  • Give back to an organization, as an alumnus, knowing Girl Scouts makes the difference.

    Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana - Selection of Adults Every adult volunteer and staff member in Girl Scouting must be selected on the basis of qualifications for membership, ability to perform the job, and willingness and availabilty to participate in training for the applied position. Applicants are interviewed, and background and references are checked.

    To register online, click HERE or use the Online Calendar. Please note that the first time you visit the Online Registration site, you will need to set up a user account with your email address and password. The V-NET and program registration databases are not linked. You may wish to use the same password so you can easily remember it.

    Training topics include: new volunteer orientation; troop leadership; outdoor education; program; health and safety; and service team development. Flexible formats make training accessible to every volunteer. In addition to the traditional classroom training, the council offers home study options and equivalency exams. Online training is coming soon!

    A schedule of trainings is published in North Star/VOLUNTEERS; training classes are also posted on the council's Online Calendar. Training Registration forms are available in both North Star and online.
